Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and South Florida floods in ordinary summer downpours too. When storm water gets inside, we remove it and dry the structure before mold gets a chance to start.
How storm water gets inside
- Wind-driven rain through roofs, windows, sliding doors and stucco cracks
- Storm surge and tidal flooding near the coast, the Intracoastal and canals
- Rain flooding when heavy downpours overwhelm local drainage, even far from the coast
- Storm damage that keeps letting water in long after the wind stops
Emergency board-up and tarping
When a storm breaks a window, a door or part of the roof, the first job is keeping more water and wind out. We board up broken windows and doors and put temporary tarps over roof damage to secure the property until permanent repairs can be made.
Tarping is temporary protection only. We don't repair or replace roofs, windows or doors. Permanent repairs need a licensed contractor, and we'll tell you up front when you need one.
Floodwater is contaminated water
Water from streets, canals and storm surge carries sewage, chemicals and debris. Drywall, insulation, carpet and other porous materials it touches usually need to come out. Hard surfaces get cleaned and sanitized, and the structure gets dried before anything is closed back up.
After the storm: safety first
- Stay out of standing water if outlets, cords or appliances could be under it
- Only shut off power at the breaker if you can reach it from a dry spot
- Stay out from under sagging ceilings
- Wear boots and gloves around floodwater
- Take photos and video before anything is moved or thrown out, for your own records
Before the next storm
- Know where your main water shutoff and electrical panel are
- Clear gutters, downspouts and yard drains
- Check roof, window and door seals before hurricane season
- In flood-prone areas, keep valuables and documents off the floor
- Save our number in your phone

Questions
Storm & Flood FAQ
Can you come right after a hurricane?
Yes, as soon as it's safe to travel and to enter the property. Demand spikes across the region after a major storm, so call as early as you can to get on the schedule.
Can you board up or tarp my property after a storm?
Yes. We board up broken windows and doors and put temporary tarps over roof damage to keep the rain out. It's temporary protection, not a roof repair. A licensed roofer or contractor handles the permanent fix.
Should I call my insurance company before cleanup starts?
Don't let it hold up keeping more water out. Take photos and video first, then protect the property: many policies list preventing further damage as one of your duties after a loss. When to file a claim is between you and your insurer, so check your policy or call your agent. We don't bill insurers or handle claims, and we give you documentation you can submit.
How do I know if my property is in a flood zone?
Look up your address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center (msc.fema.gov). Remember that heavy rain floods properties outside mapped flood zones too.
Is a little water from a roof leak a big deal?
It can be. Water above a ceiling spreads across insulation and drywall and stays hidden. A stain is usually the last sign, not the first. If water reached the ceiling or walls, have it checked.
