A sewage backup is contaminated water. Everything it touches has to be removed or cleaned and sanitized, not just dried. We handle the cleanup so your home or business is safe to use again.

Why sewage needs more than drying

Sewage carries bacteria, viruses and other contaminants. Porous materials it soaks into, like carpet, carpet pad, drywall and insulation, usually can't be saved. Hard surfaces have to be cleaned and sanitized before anything is dried and closed back up.

Treat sewage water as a health hazard. Keep children and pets away from it, and don't try to clean it up with a mop and household fans.

Common causes in South Florida

  • Main sewer line clogs and tree roots in older neighborhoods
  • Cracked or failing cast-iron drain lines in older homes and buildings
  • Heavy rain that overwhelms sewer and septic systems
  • Septic system backups
  • Grease buildup in restaurant and commercial kitchen drain lines
  • Toilet overflows in condos and multi-unit buildings that run into the units below

Until we get there

  • Stop using water in the building: no flushing, showers, laundry or dishwasher
  • Keep everyone out of the affected area, especially children and pets
  • Don't run household fans in the area. They can spread contamination
  • Only shut off power to the area if you can reach the breaker from a dry spot
  • Take photos and video before anything is moved, for your own records

Cleanup, not plumbing

We clean up the water and the damage it left. Clearing or repairing the line itself is a plumber's job. If the cause hasn't been fixed yet, we'll tell you before we start so the backup doesn't happen again.

Our process

How we handle sewage cleanup jobs

  1. Make it safe

Check for electrical hazards and set up containment so contamination doesn't spread.

  2. Extract

    Remove sewage and contaminated water.

  3. Remove what can't be saved

Take out carpet, pad, drywall, insulation and other porous materials sewage touched.

  4. Clean & sanitize

Clean and sanitize floors, walls and every hard surface the water reached.

  5. Dry

Dry the structure with air movers and dehumidifiers, checking readings as we go.

  6. Flag mold

If mold has started, we explain your options under Florida's mold licensing rules before any mold work starts.

Questions

Sewage Cleanup FAQ

Can carpet be saved after a sewage backup?

Usually not. Carpet and pad soaked by sewage are normally removed, because they can't be reliably sanitized. Hard flooring like tile can usually be cleaned and sanitized.

Is it safe to stay in the house?

Keep everyone out of the affected area, especially children, older adults and anyone with a weakened immune system. If the backup is large or takes out the only bathroom, staying somewhere else until cleanup is done may be easier.

Who fixes the pipe?

A licensed plumber clears or repairs the line. We clean up the water and the damage it left. If the cause isn't fixed yet, we'll tell you before we start.
